July 28 (Saturday) - 245pm

I am sitting here at Providence in the ICU, having just seen Jeannette.   She looks good to me, in the sense her color is good, and the swelling that I had seen before seems to have lessened.   So that is positive.  Sam reports they have modified the meds and are reducing the level of sedation.   It's not like they are trying to wake her up, but more like they want to reduce the depth of her sleep and to increase her state of awareness.   I take that as another positive thing.

The weekend seems quieter here, and the pace of things in the ICU strikes me as more relaxed today.  The Olympics is on the TV in her room, and I imagine she ins't too happy to be missing the action.    The bottom line is she is stable today, and there are no specific concerns that seems to be a focus from what I can tell.    I did not talk to a doctor, but it's clear she is holding her own.   So, the news is good and her tenacity continues to help her.

Rich, across town, is stable as well.   His urine output is doing better, and his "numbers" are good.   They still have him sedated, and the ventilator is still doing its thing.  I'm not sure when they plan to remove it, but it's helping him right now and they don't seem to be in a hurry to do anything different.   Stability is good and from I gathered the nurses even  gave him a bath of sorts, with a new gown and fresh sheets on the bed.

Earlier today he did have a procedure, which he tolerated well, to put in a port of some kind to do IV feeding.  So now he is getting liquid energy through this line, and that should be helpful I would think.  Sam has headed to the valley to see Rich, and perhaps later there will be more to report.  She has a way of getting the details out of the staff, and she is earning her nursing degree on the fly.    I think she knows what every number means.   - John
