October 5 (Friday) -- 7pm
Around 3pm Rich came in direct from his Physical Therapy. Guess what? He has been discharged from PT!!! That's right, due to overachieving on all of the tests he was cleared and no longer has to make that trip. That's great news for him for sure. He is going back to Occupational Therapy (OT) on Monday, and maybe the next Monday after that, just to work on the Range of Motion for the queenly, I guess in this case kingly, wave. He is still for the present limited to lifting albs with his previously broken arm, but he is expecting that restriction to be removed soon as well.
The big news is that Rich has purchased a Subaru Outback so he's back with wheels. Jeannette told me via FaceTime that she would have preferred a big US Army Tank or a massive HumVee instead, but she's happy with Rich's choice. He drove the new car up and took adavntage of its all wheel capabilities to get it around back of the hospital and up against Jeannette's room window so she could see it. That didn't thrill everyone I imagine, and from the last report he had it back where they wanted it, i.e. in the PARKING LOT.
Speaking of Rich adventures, he also mentioned that he did try a few practice golf swings in his garage yesterday, and he thinks that the arm and knee are going to work OK. Not sure when that all-important-test over 18 holes will take place, but with winter approaching fast it's probably going to have to wait for a Vegas return. The overall summary for Rich is that he is almost back to 100%.
As for Jeannette, I visited with both Jeannette and Rich via FaceTime, even as I sit here in Narita Japan. During our conversation he was helping her with the evening's dinner. From what I could tell it was some kind of hospital kitchen's idea of some kind of version of a taco, with french fries (inside the tortilla), and it came with a side order of yellow squash. All in all it looked pretty good, but I think from what I overheard that Rich was busy dressing it up with Picanantee sauce.
Hopefully, the meal went down without any problems; Jeannette had a run-in with nausea again earlier in the day, and she's been a little tired lately as well. But to me she looks great, and Rich was busy taking care of her so I did not linger long with my FaceTime call.-John & Sully
