Callahan is doing well as we go into Monday and has made a few baby steps! She is remaining strong off of the ventilator. She has also had a speech and OT therapist visit her as she begins to embrace changes and work through the next steps in her recovery. She was also able to swallow some liquid but is still not able to speak much as her throat continues to recover. When we FaceTimed her Sunday night she was able to say Hi to Tanner! We have cherished every moment on FaceTime with her ❤️She is beginning to realize her shaved head and the battle scars on her head which we know is going to be tough moments to work through.[...]

Sunday has been a good day! Callahan was finally fully taken off of the ventilator and we got to talk to her after. She isn't talking back just yet due to her vocal cords being sore from the tube. But she looks great and we are grateful for a step in the right direction for her healing.

This is just one small victory and we are still asking for prayers in these specific areas. 🙏🏼We want her lungs to remain strong so she can fully breath on her own. As we move into this next step in the process we want Callahan to fully embrace her changes. And we seek that she finds comfort and tons of rest. [...]

We are so happy!  We got to face time Callahan this morning and she was the most alert we have seen her.  Us, the boys, and yes the puppies too, all got to talk to her! They have taken off all the electrodes because she is following commands and they are no longer worried about seizures! She is down to only one light sedative and oxygen levels are right where they want them!  Also she is out of isolation.  All the nurses were stopping bye and saying hi to her :).  She looked absolutely great!  Her eyes were open and she was totally responding and following our voices!!!  We get to go see her next Wednesday! We are so excited! God is so good!  Keep praying!  We are seeing the results! [...]

Callahan had an uneventful night, which is considered a good thing.  They were able to reduce the oxygen level to 40% and her white blood cell count has significantly improved 💕🙌🏻😘. The goal is to get her off the ventilator this weekend!  We continue to be overwhelmed by all the love and support of our family and friends and their friends.  God is good and present in the number of people that have been touched by Callahan and continue to pray for her recovery.  Pray for her to be able to breathe on her own soon.  ❤️[...]

Tuesday was not a great night for Callahan. Her white blood cell count went back up and she had to go back to 100% oxygen.  As of late Wednesday morning her temperature was back under control.  New tests are indicating they can start the process of reducing her oxygen level and weaning her off of the intubation tube again.  We are just praying that her lungs stay strong.  The next 48 hours will tell but we are optimistic!  Some great news - the hospital is working hard for us to get in to see her hopefully soon!  Thank you for all your prayers - keep them coming! 🙏🏻💪🏻💖[...]

9/14 update: Monday night, Callahan's right lung partially collapsed so they had to insert a tube in her right lung for now. This was the same type of collapse as the last one, pneumothorax, but this time it was much smaller than the one on her left side on Sunday. Although this is a set back, right when they put the chest tube in her right lung started re-inflating 🙌🏼Through Monday night she needed 100% oxygen, but this morning she only needed 60%. All signs are pointing that she is moving in the right direction after this set back. Also, her white blood cell count was elevated high on Monday so the medical team started her on COVID treatment just to be on the safe side in case it is more than bacterial pneumonia. They did this due to her testing positive for COVID earlier in August. Tuesday her white blood cell count went down which is another great sign of improvement.

Our biggest prayer and hope right now is that her infection heals and her lungs strengthen so she can get taken off of the ventilator later this week or early next week 🙏🏼❤️ [...]

We could use all of our prayer warriors 🙏🏼

We are grateful for the progress Cal is making but know along the way there are going to be bumps. It was a bittersweet day on Sunday. The doctors attempted to take Cal off the ventilator and after trying to sustain breathing for a few hours, her left lung partially collapsed. The doctor's worked on her and got her to a stable place which we are thankful for. We have seen so many steps forward in just the first week and we know that this is just a small set back.

Sunday over night was uneventful, which we were told by the doctors that this is a good sign. She will be incubated for another week in ICU and the goal going into Monday is to get her lung function increased. Please keep praying as well all know, God's got this ❤️[...]
