9/30 Update

Huge update 🙌🏼

Callahan passed the swallow test and is drinking thick liquids right now. She is so pumped! She is also going to be transported to Gaylord Inpatient Rehabilitation within a few hours!! We couldn't be more excited for this news. Now the major therapy begins and we can finally get our Callahan back 😘

We will update back here once she is settled. Thank you all for continuing to pray so hard. It is working! God has been showing our family how to trust and lean on him through all of this 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼[...]

9/29 Update

Cal is doing a little better today. She does have unbearable pain where they took the tubes out of her lungs and still being on the feeding tube and now allowed to drink any water is extremely difficult for her. Even though it's not easy, Cal is persevering through![...]

9/28 Update

Update for Monday, we got to visit Callahan again today. She did better today but did not pass the swallow test 🙁I had a good few hours with her and she asked me to wash her hair and play some music. She picked Adele, of course 🥰We had a great talk with her as I helped wash her hair. [...]

9/24-25 Update

We got to see sweet Cal on Thursday as well as Friday!

Her lungs are getting stronger and we are hoping that one of the tubes will be removed in the next day or so. She is trying really hard to talk! She is still on the feeding tube though and she will have a swallow test on Monday. This is the biggest need for prayers right now 🙏🏼

Thursday, Cal's dad, mom and Kelly visited her and she wanted them to lay in the bed with her. She wanted to be close and told each of us that she loved us so much 🥰Thursday night we did get a call at midnight that Cal had fallen out of the bed. They think she got confused and was trying to get up. They did a ton of scans to make sure she didn't incur any additional injury or make her current situation worse. She is okay! [...]

9/23/20 Update

We got to see Callahan today after 2 weeks 🙌🏼Our hearts are full as we left the hospital. Callahan looked great considering all she has been through. She is extremely frustrated and anxious which is normal for this part of the recovery. This part of the recovery is now her going through the process of grieving everything that she is gone through. Although it's tough we have to remember that we have had a few weeks to process before her. [...]

Callahan is doing well as we go into Monday and has made a few baby steps! She is remaining strong off of the ventilator. She has also had a speech and OT therapist visit her as she begins to embrace changes and work through the next steps in her recovery. She was also able to swallow some liquid but is still not able to speak much as her throat continues to recover. When we FaceTimed her Sunday night she was able to say Hi to Tanner! We have cherished every moment on FaceTime with her ❤️She is beginning to realize her shaved head and the battle scars on her head which we know is going to be tough moments to work through.[...]

Sunday has been a good day! Callahan was finally fully taken off of the ventilator and we got to talk to her after. She isn't talking back just yet due to her vocal cords being sore from the tube. But she looks great and we are grateful for a step in the right direction for her healing.

This is just one small victory and we are still asking for prayers in these specific areas. 🙏🏼We want her lungs to remain strong so she can fully breath on her own. As we move into this next step in the process we want Callahan to fully embrace her changes. And we seek that she finds comfort and tons of rest. [...]

We are so happy!  We got to face time Callahan this morning and she was the most alert we have seen her.  Us, the boys, and yes the puppies too, all got to talk to her! They have taken off all the electrodes because she is following commands and they are no longer worried about seizures! She is down to only one light sedative and oxygen levels are right where they want them!  Also she is out of isolation.  All the nurses were stopping bye and saying hi to her :).  She looked absolutely great!  Her eyes were open and she was totally responding and following our voices!!!  We get to go see her next Wednesday! We are so excited! God is so good!  Keep praying!  We are seeing the results! [...]
