Friday AM update

The team is moving forward with the EVD at around 1030 this morning. It will be done in the OR under minimal anesthesia in hopes of Liza avoiding intubation.
Please send up prayers and love for Liza’s strength through the procedure.
Miracles! 💫🙏❤️[...]

Laura’s 7pm Thursday update

This morning Liza’s CT scan revealed a new hemorrhage in her brain. The doctors are following it and have her scheduled for an EVD (the brain-drain placed in Mexico was removed on 3/21) tomorrow morning assuming she needs it. The cause of the hemorrhage is unknown but one possibility is that it’s the tumor weakening! Fortunately Liza’s vital signs are still in a safe range in spite of it.
More prayers please!!! Pray that the Liza’s lethargy are due to radiation and this new bleeding. Pray that she stays strong and shows us responses once the drain is in place. Lastly, more shrinkage and pray for Liza to be whole!!
🙏💗💪💗🙏
Miracles for Liza![...]

Laura’s 110pm Wednesday update

Not gonna lie: it was a tough day. No responses from our beautiful Liza other than opening wide for tooth brushing. Even the optimistic radiologist was dismayed.
Liza’s heart and respiratory remain strong so we stay the course. And trust that our Sleeping Beauty Warrior has reserves and is storing her strength for what matters: beating the tumor and renewing her brain. Liza’s youth and willpower are in her favor - along with the current of the Universe that is carried through your prayers.
Please pray for shrinkage of the tumor and the rejuvenation of her brain! Pray that her devoted army of supporters (near and far) never loses hope and most importantly, pray that Liza awakens whole!!

Laura’s 9pm Tuesday update

Liza had a quiet day with only one response: a big open mouth for tooth brushing. But her room was not without lots of action… spa treatment from three Asheville friends and the arrival of her boyfriend.
We learned today that the lethargy associated with radiation only increases with time, so we’ll now really be clinging to Liza’s response moments. The tiredness also increases the need for Liza to stay strong![...]

Laura’s 11 am Monday update

Right now marks one month that Liza's saga began while eating breakfast with friends in Cabo, Mexico. In a few hours we'll mark the time that Liza's boyfriend discovered her unconscious after she lied down for a nap.
The last month has been nothing short of a nightmare, a roller coaster, and a love story all rolled up into one. We give thanks that Liza has survived despite the odds. She's been transported to Mayo in spite of the most unlikely setbacks. She survived a risky brain biopsy which thankfully yielded much better results than expected. And she has persevered to maintain her body through the challenges of the first two weeks of M-F radiation. Today at 2:00 she embarks on the 3rd week of 6 weeks of radiation.
Pray that our beautiful sleeping warrior is working alongside God and the Universe and her sister, Edie, to quietly guide its rays to shrink the tumor. Pray that she feels the same at work renewing and regenerating the pathways in her brain. Pray that hope continues to rain on all of us and shower Liza with strength, blessings, and miracles!!!

Laura’s 9pm Sunday update

Sleeping Beauty stirred!
What a wonderful gift Easter Sunday delivered. Liza rested peacefully almost the entire day. However after noon, she provided regular reassurances in the form of toe wiggles, arm raises (new and 2x), a kiss for me, and a wide open mouth for teeth brushing! I suppose some of her activity can be attributed to a weekend off from radiation, but to me, it’s like a tide has washed in - a swelling that today engulfed us all in hopefulness!
Thank you, thank you for all your prayers and positive messages. YOU and my faith in God and the Universe are the energy that sustain me. Collectively YOU are a huge part Liza’s healing! I’m humbled.[...]

Laura’s 8pm Saturday update

Quiet was already plentiful today and then Liza’s UGA bestie left. Right about the time we were discouraged by her lack of responses, Liza heard our mention of boots and wiggled her toes - reminding us that even in the darkness, light will find a way. Hope is alive on this Holy Saturday!
Thank you for the gift of Liza, the kindness or caregivers everywhere, and unexpected joys like toe wiggles. Please pray for Liza’s ability to remain strong through her own darkness and pray for miracles, big and small!

Laura’s 9pm Friday update

2 weeks of radiation complete!

It was an uneventful day with Liza resting comfortably almost the entire day 💗
Our highlight was sunshine time with a Sheepadoodle …and the Easter Bunny! Not to mention Liza’s cousins from South Dakota and several local Liza-Lovers. But Liza’s highlight may have been endless care from her college bestie who keeps her skin and hair looking perfect![...]

Laura’s 10:30 pm Thursday update

Today’s test results were reinforced by several events AND responses from Liza. First, when i arrived at the hospital, she was getting her feet washed (hello Maundy Thursday!). Then at noon Liza did a little toe wiggling for her Athens bestie. Twenty minutes later when I questioned its certainty, Liza made it quite clear by strongly wiggling the toes on her other foot! So very Liza.
After her friends washed her hair, she kept up the toe wiggles while I napped on the beach. I let my (and maybe Liza’s) stress pour into the sand where tonight’s tide under the full moon is washing it all away.
Also notable today: Liza’s sutures were removed shortly after a visit from a few childhood friends.[...]
