Quick update on NOC!

Just before the end of business hours on Friday we got news from our agency that we were granted NOC!!! We still have not completed our home study update, so our agency thinks that someone must have overridden that request since it was unusual. This puts us in place to get registered for court. We are celebrating the unexpected progress this weekend![...]

Answered Prayers and a New Process

We have been waiting patiently, or maybe impatiently, for NOC only to learn that India had been waiting on our home study update before issuing NOC. This was unexpected for our agency and for us. We have completed most of our home study update, but we weren't rushing it. When we learned that we were actually causing the delay we were pretty disappointed and moved up our meeting with our social worker. It will take a short time to process the home study update, but then NOC is around the corner! [...]

Two steps forward

We have two more boxes to check on our checklist in the last two weeks! We filed our DS-260 and then received Article 5. That all enabled us to file for NOC (No Objection Certificate) from India. Once we receive NOC we can be assigned a court date. A court ruling will make us the legal parents and then the travel documents can be produced. This is actually the home stretch! NOC has a notoriously unpredictable timeline. We were told that it comes through in anywhere from two weeks to four months (and we’ve heard of longer). All we can do is wait patiently, praying for Evelyn everyday while she unknowingly waits for us.[...]

Good News and Hard Times

Kelsey here - In case you haven’t heard yet, we have good news for Evelyn but it’s been a rough summer start for our family.

Today is Evelyn’s first birthday! You can find a lot of options for name meaning of Evelyn, but one of them is “wished for, desired child.” And we desire to be with her so much!! A couple weeks ago we received our I-800 approval (a US immigration approval)! Yay!!! [...]

Speedy Delivery

Since we accepted Evelyn’s referral, it’s been a flurry of emails and paperwork in our house. Our paperwork binder is looking like it might soon need a size upgrade and our reserves of Post-its and printer paper are dwindling. Upon referral acceptance we got going on applying for I-800 approval, a part of the US Immigration process and settled in to wait (have you heard that before?) for some original documents to come from India. But as continues to be a surprising theme, the originals arrived on Thursday! Have you heard of anything shipping quickly lately? Especially internationally?? We are so grateful for the surprising speed of every step! [...]

Approved

We were all settled in for a long wait for approval, since the last range we heard for this part was 2-12 weeks, but after just 3 ½ weeks we received notice yesterday that we received India’s approval and we are now eligible to receive a match! We were so surprised and so SO grateful! [...]

Progress

Hi! It’s us again! It’s been so long that maybe you forgot we were even in the midst of the adoption process still, but we finally have some progress to report. At the end of October we received our I-800A, which is provisional immigration approval. With that approval, it moved us on to submit a couple dozen documents to the Secretary of State to be apostilled. Then yesterday we received all of our approved, apostilled documents! An apostille is like a super-notary that notarizes all the notaries. [...]
