Sept 12 (Wednesday) - 950pm
Today marks another good day in a string of good days, and its exciting to be able to report progress and real healing. With Kevin in town, we started our day with a flight out to Willow, catching Rich in a scramble as he was getting ready to head into town for "PT" the infamous physical therapy. There were arm and hand exercises on the agenda, and his leg was better. He has had a touch of nausea the last few days, which is an expected reaction to one of his medications. Not that it really slows him down from my observation--he was doing orange marmalade and toast, and his refrigerator is stocked like a COSTCO.
Sully and Kevin headed into town to relieve Joyce, and they were there until after five in the evening. Jeannette defied expectations and went to the gym today, where she engaged in the latest workout regimen devised by Ty and Anna, two of her favorite therapists. Of the group of pateints doing the workout routine, she said she was the "weenie" but somehow I don't buy it. She did manage to sit herself up for six minutes, without any assistance, one of those little things that is oh so much more. Oh, and one more thing, Kevin snuck her a blueberry scone which disappeared before the medical staff knew what was happening.
Once again she had done another face time with Rich, and with Kevin and Sully the conversation went back to old chicken fleet tales and adventures, and the funny times that we had. There was a lot of laughter, by everyone, and the time passed oh so quickly. The bottom line is that Jeannette was in great spirits today, and she now is in full command of her bed's control panel and unlike Rich, there wasn't a single "frappin" phrase or problem with working the bed controls.
Another big item is that one of her nurses, Katrina (no relations to the hurricane of note) actually gave her a "full bath" i.e. without the bathtub. Im not sure how you do that, but it was done. One funny thing that happened today was when she went to her gym she was insistent that they gave her a robe to cover up her "bum". Ty, the therapist, remarked that "instead, we could just sell tickets!" which of course set everyone off again in the laughter department. In a way it was like a comedy team and made the serious business and hard work of the exercises pass quickly.
Tomorrow is Rich's birthday, and some kinds of plans are afoot there, and Rich's big birthday present is a visit into town to see Honeybears. I think I also overheard that there is another iPad in the works, and with Rich discovering Apple stuff it might be time to take out more stock. I somehow think he's going to be buying more stuff. Speaking of Rich, he has been working feverishly to schedule Kevin's task list. Kevin was running all over Anchorage searching out garage door openers for units they haven't made in 10 years--Rich needs to replace those old units he had that went into warp drive during the accident and disappeared into a black hole along the way. All in all it was a good day, in a string of good days.-John
