As I sit down this evening and reflect on the last few days, there is much to be covered, with some real news and some thoughts to ponder. The good news is really good, and that is Jeannette is no longer in the ICU! That's right--she is now out of the Intensive Care Unit and into a "regular" room, still at St Elias Hospital. Of course, the bustle of the ICU is missing now, but the significance of the move is not lost on anyone. This is REAL progress in every way progress can be measured!
Another positive is all of the main numbers have been staying where they want them, although there are a few recent concerns about her oxygen count falling some during the night. It seems she is going into a "deep sleep" now that she is out of the ICU. But as Rich said, Jeannette has always been a sound sleeper, and so from my non medical perspective it just seems that without the bustle of the ICU going on all around her now for the first time she is finally getting some real rest and her deep sleep is back. In the ICU of course they never really let you sleep, but now things have quieted down and so she can and at night she is. But it seems that her blood oxygen levels drop at night. They have run a full range of pulmonary tests and found that everything is working well, so it's only a sleep issue.
As the topic of the pending and all important surgery nears the stress level has been growing, and the worry and the concerns about the plan, and what it will be, are central and in everyone's thoughts. CT scans, and a full MRI series have all been ordered, and everyone is waiting now for the key doctor and surgeon Dr Kavanaugh to come up with the plan on where to go and how soon to start. The unknowns are definitely stressful! It's hard to be cheery and upbeat when the plan is still open and the doctors are still deciding on what needs to be done and how they will do it.
For now, it's a waiting game. The all important XRays, CT Scans, and MRI pictures have been taken, the there is nothing to do but wait to hear what the team of doctors decide. But clearly, there is major work to be done, and all of our prayers are needed to get this done so Jeannette can get well. - John
