Back Home!

Turns out that Steve did not have an abdominal infection after all; whatever was going on with his white blood count resolved itself without intervention, so last Friday with everything else looking good he was cleared for discharge. Things are going well at home so far. The biggest challenges are keeping him well-nourished and gaining weight. So we’re trying to be creative with ways to pack on the calories and nutrients in enticing small bites (any suggestions?).[...]

Hospital Update

Steve has made progress every day since his surgery last Thursday. At first they were talking about possible discharge tomorrow, but a high white blood count has his doctors suspecting that there may be an infection in his abdomen. So a bump in the road to recovery, but hopefully one that won't set him back too far.[...]

May 8th Update

Steve has been scheduled for surgery this Thursday, May 12 at UNC Hospital. The surgery will initially be exploratory to assess the extent of Steve’s metastases and if it makes sense to do so, then proceed to remove the primary colon mass and fix the perforation. The ultimate goal is to make Steve more comfortable and improve his quality of life.[...]
