The name of the game is endurance. Two weeks ago talking and eating were new to Gracie. She now has been able to cease tube feeding and has gained back 7 pounds. She has about 7 more to go to be back to normal for her. She is also talking more with her trach cuff deflated. Sometimes she will go several hours at a time. It is great to hear her voice and listen to her opine on all things "Bachelor". She also admitted to me that she misses SBHS and being tuned in to what her friends are doing.[...]
Gracie had a nice Valentine’s weekend… Paul, Lori, and Elizabeth (Gracie’s uncle, aunt, and cousin) arrived on Friday, and had dinner with Bill and Emily on Saturday night. Gracie’s friend Hanna and her mom also came out on Saturday and spent the weekend with Gracie. No greater gift on Valentine’s Day than love, family and friends.[...]
Just a reminder that the concert for Gracie is this Sunday from 6 to 9pm at The Blind Tiger, 409 State Street, in downtown Santa Barbara. There are a number of acts that will be performing through the evening, all of whom have played with Gracie in the past. I expect it to be busy, so plan on arriving early. Tickets are available at the door. All ticket sales and donations will directly go to supporting Gracie. I look forward to seeing many of you there. Paul
They have moved Gracie to a new room on Friday… good thing we had not put everything up on the wall yet! We’ve been getting cards, and I know Gracie like reading them, so thank you for those who have sent them! There are probably bunches more in the mail room… Craig is not the fastest in the mail delivery business.[...]
Gracie did a barium swallow test to evaluate her ability to swallow food, and the great news is that she was cleared to eat anything! Okay, maybe not 9-course meals just yet (hold off on sending her a bunch of food!) as Gracie is nervous about the process and will be self-restricting her food consumption I'm sure, but looking forward forward to smoothies and building to more over time![...]
Yesterday we celebrated Emily's 15th birthday! Although we didn't go outside, Grace got up in a chair for the second time and saw the snow with her sister. Pastor Alan Strout has a friend that lives in this area, and they are letting us use their car so we will have the ability to get Emily to school. We are continually grateful for those that have stepped forward in our time of need.[...]
Yesterday was a good day. Gracie enjoyed her first bath in a cushy tub with something like an air mattress with holes to let the water go through. And the video of the event yesterday brought on a long hard smile Gracie! Special thanks to Jenny Schatzle, and our friends and neighbors that attended her event and gave so generously![...]
Yesterday was harder than I thought it would be with all of the travel, commotion, settling in, and working with all of Gracie's new staff, but it was the first night in five and a half weeks that I got more than five hours of sleep, so I was feeling ready for this new day. Gracie also had a rough night last night, but is more comfortable now.[...]
Gracie landed in Denver a bit ago and they are getting settled in and meeting everyone on their team. If you'd like to send a card or letter to Gracie, the mailing address is:[...]
