14 August 7:30pm

Rich just called to report that Jeannette slipped in the shower today, fell and appears to have a broken ulna.  The radius has a plate in it so that was evidently not affected but alas, poor chick, she has a busted wing!  Stay tuned for more info tomorrow.  The Drs have not yet determined the course of action.  She is still in St Elias. Rich promised to call with any news so, when he does, we will issue an update. Sully[...]

5 August Monday

Jeannette has had a good day at PT.  She did a high speed march around the ground floor.  Her strides were just like pre-accident!  Everyone is impressed with her determination.  She was grateful for all the visitors this weekend. Rich said it was impossible to squeeze into the room!  Rich is looking forward to a golf date with Ryan on Friday. When he suggested bringing in a golfclub for PT/OT, Ty the Terrible ( therapist) thought it was a great idea. It will help Jeannette's grip strength and balance. Still awaiting word from Dr George on scan results. Jeannette is all taped up and ready for a shower. She did a standing shower all by herself the other day and was pretty proud of it. Keep the prayers coming. [...]

3 August Saturday 5pm

Greetings from Jeannette. If you don' t know, Jeannette is back in St Elias, Room 206.  She has been there for 3 weeks resting up and hoping that a small hole in her ostemy reversal will heal. Visitors are always welcome. She is in great spirits and has been doing PT and OT everyday. On Thursday, she had a scan to see if the hole is closing and is awaiting Dr George's reading of results.  Hopefully, she will know something on Monday and can plan her escape back to Willow. Rich took a short break last week and headed to Oshkosh with Kevin. He returned last night.  Jeannette says keep the prayers coming and keep the faith. She is certainly doing both. [...]

I am sitting in Amsterdam as I am typing this update, but my thoughts are in Alaska and with Jeannette and Rich tonight.   Once again, as we have learned throughout this year of medical miracles, there are ups and downs with the recovery process that are impossible to predict and impossible to anticipate.  [...]

Jeannette was a bit tired last night, "draggy-butt" I think is the quote. That did not stop her from taking 3 walks and going outside to sit in the beautiful sun. She has kept up that amazing positive spirit and was complimenting the wonderful care she has received from the awesome staff. She is looking forward to Dr George's return today because she wants answers!  The first answer she wants is to when she is going home.  She is ready to sit in the sun on the front deck in Willow and direct Rich in his outside chores, or maybe direct him not to work so hard at his outside chores.  As of this posting, Dr George has not yet made her rounds. Another update will follow once we get the doctor's report. As it has been since the beginning of this saga, Rich and Jeannette are grateful for all the prayers and well- wishes of their many friends across the globe. You guys need to keep up the good work! Sunday, May 19th [840pm]

For most of the past two weeks I’ve been out of town, and have not made any “posts” or “updates” to this website. I’ve tried to call and ‘facetime’ and keep in contact, but like the rest of you who sign on and look I’ve been thankful that the posts have been handled by those who have been there. And during this time Jeannette has undergone a major and very critical operation, and a team of doctors has worked very hard to make what we all hope is the last great “final repair” on her intestinal system that was damaged so severely during the accident. More than 10 months has now passed since that terrible day, and together, her family and friends have ridden the roller coaster of ups and downs, hope and despair, and fear and joy. Their survival has been a real miracle in so many ways, and without any question both she and Rich have lived through one medical crisis after another. It is a tremendous understatement to say that it has been a very long, very slow, and a very difficult journey, and yet her incredible faith and unbelievable tenacity for life has brought her to this day.[...]

Jeannette is having a much better recovery day today. Hiccups, nausea, and pain have all been effectively managed by her team of doctors, and she seems to be doing well. The medical team that has been treating her have been so methodical and caring, and that has been impressive to behold. We are still waiting for her surgeon to come by and make a determination on the nasal tube, diet, etc. but she is leaving for her Dad's 100th birthday party late tonight, so it may be another surgeon on her team. Overall, a much better day, and hopefully they will continue.[...]

Hi Everyone.

Here’s your "Surgery + 2 Days" update. Overall, there is good progress. Mom’s temperature is holding and the doctors have no major causes for concern. Her gut is making the “right sounds”. She is not yet taking food orally but is, instead, receiving nutrition via her IV “feedbag”. She takes at least three walks a day down the hospital hall with her entourage … nurse, walker, IV tree, tree-pusher and admirers![...]
