October 16 (Tuesday) - 1130am

Just finished talking with Rich; Jeannette's in for a round of "OT" (Occupational Therapy) right after an earlier round of "PT" (Physical Therapy).   Sounds like a busy gym session day to me!    The doctor had ordered a new round of tests yesterday, checking for any infections, blood work, etc, and the good news is nothing bad was found and all things continue to point towards the all important surgery sometime next week.  They haven't got the definitive answer from the doctor on the WHERE and the WHEN, and so at this time all I can report is that things are still being decided on the timing of the pending leg repairs.  Rich said Jeannette continues to improve, and today has been a day without nausea.   She is in good spirits, upbeat about the surgery, but frustrated about the slow pace of the healing ordeal.     As I write this update the bottom line is there are no specifics to report right now.   All in all things continue in that slow and steady pace of continued healing, and once again, the "no news" is "good news."   -- John[...]

October 13 (Saturday) - 1230pm

As I write this note Sully and I just got off the FaceTime call with both Rich and Jeannette.   Rich was, believe it or not, doing a pedicure.  Yeah...that's right.   It was his first, and perhaps, his last.   Still, he had the pink toe separators in place, and one foot was already done and drying, with "perfect" bright red polish professionally applied.   Or, at least that's the way it looked via webcam.[...]

October 11 (Thursday) 1030

Rich is here and we are in the gym watching physical therapy. Jeannette was able to sit up on her own and dole out hugs. Rich was first in line. She also was able to lean to the side and push up and down with her left arm. She is groovin' to Lady Gaga on the radio. Sadly, today is Sandra's last day. She is heading back to AZ where she is a doctoral student. We have all enjoyed having her expertise on Team Keida. Some of the other exercises taking place have direct application to the golf swing.

Jeannette had a rough day yesterday but it appears that the cause of the nausea has been determined. Iron has had a lifelong negative impact on Jeannette's digestive system. No more Fe! The good news is that she slept 9 hours. The leg surgery appears to be on track for 10-14 days out. Waiting for CT scan results on getting rid of the neck brace. Rich walked 2 miles yesterday. He is doing great.  [...]

Additional Update 9 Oct

Jeannette is off Coumadin, prepping for potential surgery. It has been causing nausea so she is glad not to have to take it. She is doing a face time with Rich at the moment. He is heading outside for a walk and to work on his new car. He has one more occupational therapy session. His homework involves holding a hammer at the end and rotating his wrist to develop more strength and flexibility. Jeannette has a news flash for us all!!! It seems that she has new incentive to get those dancing feet back to 100%. The wonderful Kynah, who everyone loves, has agreed to marry Matt. Jeannette says no wedding will take place unless she is there!!! That sounds just like Jeannette. Congratulations to the kids. Jeannette says keep the prayers and posts coming. She reads the posts everyday.

9 October (Tuesday) 1100

Jeannette is working on her supine and sitting bust exercises down in the gym. She was also doing snow angels with her arms. Her balance is good and she is working on different muscle groups under the watchful eyes of Ahna, Jessica and Sandra. She had her neck Xrayed to see if the Elizabethan collar can come off her neck. Results pending.

7 October (Sunday) 1:30 pm

Jeannette is having a good weekend. Jessie, her nurse, was braiding her hair when I came in. She showed me the before hair braiding "do" which looked like Phyllis Diller. Jessie gave Jeannette a spa treatment! Rich was off at Starbucks in his new Subaru having coffee and a snack. Jeannette had 2 naps yesterday because she worked so hard at Physical therapy all week. Surgery on both legs may be imminent. That sounds like the road to recovery to me. She has enjoyed having Rich in for the entire weekend. They enjoyed playing cards together last night. Rich is going to take me for a spin in in his new Ru later.

October 5 (Friday) -- 7pm

Around 3pm Rich came in direct from his Physical Therapy. Guess what? He has been discharged from PT!!! That's right, due to overachieving on all of the tests he was cleared and no longer has to make that trip. That's great news for him for sure. He is going back to Occupational Therapy (OT) on Monday, and maybe the next Monday after that, just to work on the Range of Motion for the queenly, I guess in this case kingly, wave. He is still for the present limited to lifting albs with his previously broken arm, but he is expecting that restriction to be removed soon as well.    [...]

October 5 (Friday) -- 1 pm

Jeannette had an excellent night.  8 hours of beauty rest and no nausea. She got 3 eggs for breakfast, toast and bacon. They are trying to feed her like a lumberjack. PT and OT went well.  Unfortunately, Ty met his match and hightailed it to HI. Heather is filling in and Jeannette says it is the difference between Atila the Hun and Tinkerbelle. Today was spa treatment, Heather massaged the right hand and applied cream to the scars. Everything is looking good. [...]

October 4 (Thursday) -- 3pm

Jeannette is having a great day. Rich came to visit. He and Sam are out looking at, maybe buying, a Subaru. Rich drove it to Jeannette's window, and Tristan ( wound care nurse) turned the bed so J could see it and give a thumbs up.  Tristan is working the stomach wound, repacking and new dressings. The great news is that there is 80% coverage/ granulation of new skin. Jeannette is very happy about this. She also showed off her great range of motion with both arms when I walked in this morning. She can raise both above her head.  Jeannette says " Keep the faith, and keep the prayers coming".--Sully[...]

October 3 (Wednesday) - midnight

A short update--talked with Rich today via FaceTime, and the news he relayed is all "good".    Jeannette is making forward progress to the point they are now talking about her pending surgery on her left leg in the "near term", which from the medical perspective probably means sometime in the next ten days to two weeks.   She did require a blood transfusion, which isn't all that unexpected since so many of her bones were broken and one consequence of that apparently is that her bone marrow isn't producing the new blood cells in the quantity they the doctors wanted.   So, they watch her numbers closely.    [...]
