Perspective

They say perspective is in the eye of the beholder.  Wait.....that's beauty.  But whatever, it makes sense in this instance. 

Its been a great day for the family members and care team at the hospital. Getting the tube out was great!  Even better is he's talking, albeit very hoarsely, and able to communicate with us.  We remain hopeful.  We are all doing happy dances in our minds.   [...]

The "Old Grizzled Veteran"

Over the past week and a half, we've encountered lots of nurses - they generally work a 12 hour shift - 7 to 7, and work for 3 days, then have a few days off.  We've had some favorites and some that aren't quite as awesome....but, overall we've been happy with the nurses and our staff interactions.[...]

Sports to the rescue

From Nikki and George:

On Thursday night, August 28th, George and I spent the evening with dad at the hospital watching football.  As Bob became more alert, George decided that he must be REALLY bored, which is a fair assessment.  The ICU is filled with beeping, alarms, respirator sounds, etc., and imagine being in bed, not being able to communicate, move or get away from these.  We talked to the nurse who gave approval to our TV plan.[...]

The story

On Tuesday, August 19th, Bob was involved in a boating accident and experienced a near drowning incident.  He's currently in the ICU at Tacoma General Hospital.  He remains on a respirator and is heavily sedated.  He is receiving good care from the nurses and doctors, and we remain hopeful for a journey to full recovery.[...]
