11:00 am

Unfortunately, Brian didn't have too good of a night sleep wise but we're hoping as we remove contraptions i.e., I.V.'s, bandage, etc. he'll begin to be more comfortable.  He walked a little bit this morning at 5:00 am and they're happy with the amount of liquids and foods he's consuming.  He really enjoyed the pumpkin bread - thank you!  The occupational and physical therapists will be in stopping in today.[...]

1:00 am

Brian continues to make us laugh.  He was asking everyone how they were doing after his own surgery (typical Brian).  He was up and walking to the bathroom at 11:00 pm last night by his choice.  He is still sleeping on and off.  He is still on a pump for pain but I believe they will wean him off sometime today and get him on meds that are not as strong along with Tylenol.  He is also on an antibiotic which is common after surgery.[...]

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13

We arrived at hospital at 8:00 am and headed to have the FMRI performed.  All went well … Brian is amazing!  He wanted to see the results of the FMRI.  He asked great questions.  The Doctor walked in and asked Brian … how are you?  Brian said, more importantly, how are you?  He asked if the doctor was well rested.  LOL  He cracked everyone up including the doctor. They took him on time at noon to get him prepped for surgery starting at approximately 1:00 pm.  And … here we wait!  Please continue to pray, pray, pray!  [...]

Friday November 10

Today we had an appointment at 9:00 am at Lurie Children's in Chicago. We met with his nurse Wendy and Dr. Tomita, the neurosurgeon. After speaking with Dr. Tomita, we had to go to an occupational evaluation to help them understand exactly what he can and cannot do with his left hand..  From there he went for a spinal MRI and ct scan to evaluate things further.   Being that Brian is left handed , the wiring can be a bit more challenging so Monday morning at 8:00 am he will go for a special MRI where he will be asked questions and the MRI  will get highlighted to show exactly what part of the Brain is being used when those questions or commands are being asked. This Enables the surgeon during the surgery  to not harm those areas that he needs for functioning. Prep for surgery will be around 10:30 am and surgery will begin around noon.  It typically takes 3-4 hours.  Good news is there is no shaving of the head. They will go in and b able to see exactly what  they are dealing with and get tissue that will allow the doctors to know exactly how to treat him moving forward.  We are all home now but will be back Sunday night to a hotel near  there so we can get to the hospital early Monday morning . [...]
