The term "burnout" is personally annoying. It indicates, to me, a surrender or a '"giving up". I find it distasteful, and find it often used as an accusation, or a reflection of one's character, or a lack of character.[...]
Attempting to communicate with a TBI patient can be like talking to a foreigner who speaks no English. A simple statement that should only take fifteen minutes takes much longer, with numerous repetitions, and can sometimes even last the whole day long. A once congenial conversationalist can still be intelligent and talk to you, and carry on many every day tasks, but not on the same level once enjoyed.[...]
I had an appointment today with my Physiatrist. Sadly, she is leaving. I am upset by this greatly. She came into my life when I needed her most - when I desperately needed to trust someone with my body who knew what they were doing and actually LISTENED to me about what I KNEW about MY body too. I do not feel the need has yet passed....yet her life's journey continues. This has been a tough day and will be a difficult transition. I put my brave and supportive face on while I fell apart inside. This is childish I tell myself......Why does it feel like so much loss?[...]
I am asked a myriad of questions that I don't know how to answer, as there are so many possible ways to answer. However, I will do the best I can.
