It's hard to believe but on February 4th, we cruised past the 10 month mark. It is really crazy to think about this battle and that it has lasted 10 months so far but on the other hand it feels much longer than 10 months. Crazy time distortion.[...]
Warning, this post may be difficult for some to read. It is definitely difficult to write. We have tried to spend some time processing this update and telling people in person, but while that is our preferred method of discussing this, it is impractical for us to talk to everyone individually. [...]
I have had a few requests for Eric updates over the past several days.....usually that means that I haven't updated here in a while. Oops. Our apologies! Hopefully each of you had great holidays and are off and running in your new year! [...]
I told Eric and J that I would share an update a few weeks ago, but I've struggled to figure out what to share. While sitting inside on a cold and snowy new year's day I decided it was time. Reflecting on this past year, it's hard not to focus in on the anger, frustration, and sadness that we have all felt with Eric's diagnosis. However, I find myself thinking more about all of the amazing connections we've made, the wonderful friends and family that continue to show up for Eric, and of course Eric's fighting spirit. [...]
Eric is officially 8 months from surgery and diagnosis! This is an awesome anniversary to celebrate and we wanted to celebrate it with all of you! [...]
Eric continues to work through recovery very well although it doesn't always feel that way for him.
We were able to fly home late last week and were able to enjoy a nice, easy weekend at home together. We celebrated Halloween We are slowly starting to do more and more "normal" activities, and it feels good to be able to get into a routine and do the normal things. [...]
Once again, Eric is breaking barriers and displaying his superhuman power! Just 48 hours after surgery Eric has busted out of the hospital!
Late yesterday afternoon Eric was moved out of the ICU to a neuro stepdown unit. He was able to keep his pain managed and get a little more rest last night. So, they decided to kick him out! Eric and J will continue to stay in Salt Lake City for a few days to rest and recover before heading home.[...]
I think Eric may have super human powers.
Fueled by bacon and odd humor. Displaying incredible levels of pain tolerance. Plus, up and walking around <24 hours after brain surgery. These all seem like super human traits to me.[...]
What a day it has been!
To jump to the end first...Eric is out of surgery and in the neuro ICU where he will likely be for the next 24 to 48 hours. He is stable, awake, talking, and squeezing J's, Dad's, and Mom's hands. The awesome ICU team is helping Eric to manage his pain and get him comfortable. But, in true Eric fashion, his humor and sharp whit are well intact. [...]
