This is very hard. It seems that the insult that occurred 2 Saturday’s ago when he was taken off ECMO has had a profound effect on Walker. His Meema had a great friend of hers visit Walker today and she said “it seems he has lost his fire”. While his body has been for all intents and purposes been getting better his recovery seems to have stalled. We believe his recovery would be further along had he had the fire during last 10 days to get better like he was while on ECMO.[...]

There’s only one!!

We made a deal yesterday with Walker, his doctor and I, that if he walked to the door at the end of the hall, he could see his doggies. So, got the word after lunch today from his Meema that he made the trek successfully. 👍👍💪 I loaded up Suki and Willow, headed off to Florida Hospital doggie bags at the ready. [...]

Mind over Matter

Walkers body is continuing to improve daily. Yesterday he was able to keep a little food and drink down successfully which is big. Waking up his stomach getting it to function properly is a current goal. His lungs are improving a little each day and that’s the way the lazy lungs go. We are getting close to getting him off the vent which is only used at night to give his lungs rest but they are slowly decreasing the amount of time it’s used. So overall body getting better for sure.[...]

A bump in the road

Yesterday was a hard day and a good day all the same. Getting rid of the ECMO machine was scary for Walker who had come to rely on its support after 63 days of having it there as needed. So he was very anxious and he went from being cold all the time to being hot now. So this made him feel strange. He told the staff he wanted rest and that he would not walk.[...]

After 2 solid days with no ECMO support, tomorrow is the big day! He is scheduled to have the surgery to remove the ECMO lines sometime tomorrow. This is big!! We are very blessed indeed. Ours is not to ask why through the valley but to seek enough nourishment to continue to the journey through the day to witness what comes next. [...]

A very! Good day

3 full laps around the floor for a total of 628ft and he was the 1st patient ever to do a standing tuck backflip while on ECMO :-). Ok so it wasn't a standing tuck or a flip but he thought about it![...]
