Childhood Cancer Awareness TEDx speech

Although Natalia memorized and practiced her speech a thousand times, delivering it flawlessly.......there was something different about today. The fact that she put herself out there as she spoke out about real issues that are often ignored. She wrote the speech all by herself, with her teachers guidance, and had the guts to put her very own pictures of such a painful time in her life.  The first time she delivered her speech it was in her classroom, competing against all other fourth and fifth grade classes. The children in her classroom were deeply touched, some had tears in heir eyes....and lots of them stood up after and hugged her! One particular child was so impacted by the speech, that he did his own fundraiser and collected toys for the children at St. Joe's. Whether or not she won her school wide speech didn't matter....she was already changing lives with what she had to say!!  This morning the cafeteria was packed with parents, family, teachers, administrators, fourth and fifth graders, and of course the speakers......all 15 of them. As Natalia took the stage, I noticed her very nervous, but what happened next took us all by surprise.....towards the end of her speech, exactly right before her last sentence, she began to crumble......and broke down crying....such RAW emotion. :( I wanted to run up, scoop her up, take her home and love on her. It broke my heart to see her like that. It happened as she heard herself talk about how it feels to be a child with cancer. It took her back to a time when we literally lived out of the hospital, had multiple port accesses, violent vomiting, transfusions, biopsies, scans, surgeries, gastric tubes, catheters, a time of unfathomable pain, hair loss, body casts, a large second degree radiation burn...the list goes on and on.....such a HARSH REALITY, especially for a child. NO WORDS.......As she got through her last line, everyone in the room was standing and clapping. Not a dry eye in her room.......even the children were crying. NO DOUBT.....Just because the cancer is physically gone, doesn't mean life goes on business as usual. It will NEVER be the same. It still resonates in all our lives on so many levels.......especially Natalia's. Physically, emotionally and spiritually. With the Lord's help, we can pick up the pieces, and STAND. The journey is forever chiseled into our hearts, our souls....our spirits.  Childhood cancer is NOT fair....as it steals the children's childhood/lives from them. Today, the rush of emotions that were on display for everyone to see is the REALITY of childhood cancer. I encourage all of you to pray for our fellow comrades still fighting this ugly war of childhood cancer. See where The Lord leads you to take part of.......even if it's increasing awareness. I have never been more proud of my daughter...for having the boldness and the courage to take a stand and be transparent. It may not have been the outcome that she wanted, or expected, but it may have been the outcome God wanted, because He is in control. Those emotions were from within, deep down inside.....and she needed to get them out. It was therapeutic....it needed to happen.....A healing has begun..... Lord Jesus, I thank you for helping Natalia to be bold and strong in you. Thank you because Natalia will begin her process of healing on the inside and out.....and as you guide her steps, she will grow in stature and favor. We Bless and magnify you...for you are MIGHTY...YOUR WILL OVER NATALIA WILL NOT BE THWARTED....FOR YOU HOLD HER IN YOUR HANDS....and YOUR PURPOSE AND PLANS OVER HER LIFE WILL COME TO FRUITION. Amen Here's her video link to her Fb page. https://www.facebook.com/1403639516538606/videos/1711252905777264/ 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us. We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who live are always given over to death because of Jesus, so that Jesus’ life may also be revealed in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you. And since we have the same spirit of faith in keeping with what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke, we also believe, and therefore speak. We know that the One who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and present us with you. Indeed, everything is for your benefit, so that grace, extended through more and more people, may cause thanksgiving to increase to God’s glory. Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is ETERNAL.
