Night and Day

A tale of dark and light, yesterday was my day, Dad, with Walker and it was truly an awful, dark day. From the start Walker was in panic mode with high pressures and we had a young male nurse that was inexperienced in dealing with a high anxiety situation. They had to push meds all day just too calm him down off the fence of I can’t breathe. This continued all day long with naps in between the panic for at least some rest but no movement at all in or out of bed :-(. I kept saying I just want this day to end.[...]

Hope and circumstances

After a horrendously challenging week of recovery issues that put us on the roller coaster downslope ( like the infamous  SheiKra drop), Walker is on the slow climb (like going up the long hill on SheiKra - the coaster that he rode I believe it was 16 times one day) to doing better. His body and mind have a very slow recovery setting which does not like being rushed much to his parents dismay.[...]

Recovery from gallbladder surgery has been tough. It seems the stomach is not cooperating in the general process of eating or drinking. This is causing several problems including lung issues.[...]

Walker had surgery today to remove his gallbladder. He is back to his room and resting now. So what’s a few more minor war wounds for this veteran warrior. Needless to say he will have a roadmap of scars to tell a riveting story at his future beach parties. And party again he will!! [...]

Haven’t known what to say really for days. Walker is about same physically and this am one of his main Doctors, Dr. Silvestri, paid him a visit. He was very kind, as he heard Walker had refused to do his PT again this am, and stopped by to tell him that he understands his fear but that he can overcome this to get back to 98% !! of his youthful self. That we are all here to help him get there. Thank you Doc.[...]

This is very hard. It seems that the insult that occurred 2 Saturday’s ago when he was taken off ECMO has had a profound effect on Walker. His Meema had a great friend of hers visit Walker today and she said “it seems he has lost his fire”. While his body has been for all intents and purposes been getting better his recovery seems to have stalled. We believe his recovery would be further along had he had the fire during last 10 days to get better like he was while on ECMO.[...]

There’s only one!!

We made a deal yesterday with Walker, his doctor and I, that if he walked to the door at the end of the hall, he could see his doggies. So, got the word after lunch today from his Meema that he made the trek successfully. 👍👍💪 I loaded up Suki and Willow, headed off to Florida Hospital doggie bags at the ready. [...]

Mind over Matter

Walkers body is continuing to improve daily. Yesterday he was able to keep a little food and drink down successfully which is big. Waking up his stomach getting it to function properly is a current goal. His lungs are improving a little each day and that’s the way the lazy lungs go. We are getting close to getting him off the vent which is only used at night to give his lungs rest but they are slowly decreasing the amount of time it’s used. So overall body getting better for sure.[...]
